Wacky Texans
Oh, those wacky Texans.
First, its state legislature limited legal abortion to before you can tell if you’re pregnant while allowing a $10 K reward to busybodies who inform on abortion providers and recipients. Now, Texas seeks to allow concealed carry of firearms without the burden of obtaining a permit or suffering through safety training. That’s like allowing a 16 year old to drive without the burden of that pesky “rules of the road” exam or a behind-the-wheel test.
Texas State Rep Matt Schaefer rationalized the concealed carry expansion in a unique way. “Restoring the right of vulnerable, law-abiding women to carry a concealed handgun in Texas is pro-life.” Really? Tell that to the toddler in Florida who found a loaded gun in his Mom’s pocket last month and fatally shot her in the head while she was busy on a Zoom call for work. Of course, there will be lot fewer abortions in Texas if “law-abiding” women have concealed weapons to blow away potential rapists. The Texas abortion law does not exempt rape or incest.
But what about mass shootings, State Rep Matt? He has the answer for that as well. “Godless depraved hearts are the root of the problem.”
Any Texan can carry a concealed weapon without a permit or training unless that Texan has a curious toddler or has a “godless, depraved heart.” Makes sense to me.
