The Deep State Strikes Again

The cafeterias at South Scranton Junior High and at dear old Central High offered only whole milk, calories and lactose intolerance be damned. A half-pint carton cost all of 4 cents. This was the early ’60s when a full hot lunch ran all of 25 cents.

The Freshman Dining Hall at Lafayette had a dispenser that filled glasses or pitchers of, you guessed it, whole milk at every meal. An adjacent dispenser poured generic Kool-Aid that we referred to as “bug juice”. Lactose-intolerant kids could get high on the pure cane sugar in the “bug juice”.

The Big Government Deep State has always interfered with school lunches. Under Republicans, it once declared that ketchup was a vegetable. Under Democrats, the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 required that only low-fat or fat-free milk be served in schools. Wealthier schools stocked their cafeterias with soy, almond, and oat milk. It’s a little-known fact that only rich White kids are lactose-intolerant.

Before adjourning for the holidays last week, the Republican majority in the House of Representatives passed the Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act of 2023. It required that only whole milk be served in school cafeterias.

Clearly, Whole Milk for Healthy Kids is more important than the government running out of money in four weeks, Ukrainians running out of ammunition, and Gazan civilians being killed by the thousands. Big Dairy throws a great Christmas party and you are cordially invited.

The Senate remained in session this week. Its Democrat-Majority Agricultural Committee rejected the House-passed bill. Its opinion stated, “Dairy is a very important part of a balanced meal. But one thing is clear. School meal standards currently based on dietary science should continue to be based on dietary science, not based on which individual food products we support.”

Those sneaky Dems and their “science”. They also used “science” to claim that vaccines prevent COVID when real Americans know that all vaccines do is cause autism.

When Trump is president and the Senate is GOP-controlled, kids will get whole milk for lunch again. Take that, Deep State.
