Swamp Creature

“Crooked Hillary” and “Lock Her Up” were themes of Donnie’s 2016 campaign. He backed his assertions by citing the money that Hillary made giving speeches.

“The special interests pay her for speeches. And she’s not a good speaker! Not a good speaker. They pay her a lot of money. … Who would want to hear Hillary Clinton speak and pay her $200,000, $300,000, $400,000, $500,000? Who? That’s The Swamp that I will drain.”

Hillary and Bill Clinton jointly reported $5.25 million in speaking fees in 2015. That’s certainly a nice piece of change. Could Donnie have a point?

Donnie had four years to drain The Swamp (and to build that Big Beautiful Wall). The slough where the speech-giving gators reside remained. Donnie and Melania took full advantage. Last year, they reported a cool $12 million in speaking fees. Super Businessman that he is, Donnie set five of those speeches (worth $2 million) at Mar-a-Lago or at Bedminster. The Clintons probably didn’t get a cut of the snacks, souvenirs and bar tabs at their speeches, but Donnie did.

Hillary was something less than a spell-binding orator. Donnie’s “Who would pay $200 K to hear her speak?” point is well-taken.

On the other hand, Melania hauled in nearly $1 million for her solo speeches last year. I’m sure that the Log Cabin Republicans, MAGA Again, and the Liberty Education Forum were spell-bound by her outstanding oratory.

“Drain The Swamp”, “Crooked Hillary”, “Build The Wall” and all the rest sounded good back in 2016. Sorry Donnie, you’re just as much a Swamp Creature as the Clintons.
