Producer in Trouble?
A producer at “BBC News Hour” may be in trouble. Yesterday, that producer scheduled an interview with a Russian Duma member from Putin’s party. He spewed the classic “It’s those Ukrainians committing atrocities on ethnic Russians. We are peacekeepers” line. The producer followed with an interview with a former US Ambassador to Ukraine. The ambassador was pissed. “Would the BBC interview Hitler to explain his reason for invading Poland on Sept 1, 1939? Putin’s invasion of Ukraine is no more justified than the start of WW II.”
Was the BBC producer wrong? Should harmful lies be broadcast as “news”? The title of the program is BBC News Hour after all.
Or should both sides of an issue be presented no matter how foolish one side might be? Do we trust the public to recognize falsehood?
Surely, “the man who knows more about war than the generals” can recognize Putin’s lies as such. Actually, Putin’s actions are “genius”, “a smart move”, and utilized “the strongest peace force I’ve ever seen” according to The Former Guy. Ukrainians under fire might disagree with that “peace force” description, Donnie. Are you running for US or Russian President in 2024?
How about “the man with the highest-rated cable news show”, Tucker Carlson? He claims that the situation in Ukraine is “a border conflict that should not concern Americans.” In fact, “we could apply some lessons from it to our own southern border.” Great idea, Tuck. Let’s bomb Guadalajara.
According to the Tuckster, Putin is not nearly as evil as Biden and those Dems. “Why should I hate Putin so much? Has Putin ever called me a racist? Has he threatened to get me fired for disagreeing with him?”
Oh Tuckie, no one ever gets fired from Fox News for being racist. It’s practically a job requirement. Keep your ratings up (and your zipper zipped (ask Bill O’Reilly)) and you will never get fired.
In my opinion the BBC producer was correct. If the public does not hear crap from the Russian Duma, we will hear it from a former president or from Fox News. Let’s go with the Boris Badenov accent. It is more fun.
