Pro-Choice Uber

As soon as Collin Davis found out his ex-partner was planning to travel to Colorado to have an abortion, the Texas man retained a high-powered antiabortion attorney who immediately issued a legal threat. “Fathers of aborted fetuses can sue for wrongful death in states with abortion bans, even if the abortion occurs out-of-state,” the lawyer claimed. “Fathers can sue anyone who paid for the abortion or anyone who aided or abetted the travel to a state where abortion is legal.”

Collin can sue the woman’s family if they paid for the abortion, Uber for getting her to the airport, and Delta Airlines for flying her to Colorado. One of them will likely settle with Collin out of court for big bucks. That’s better odds than claiming “whiplash” after a rear end collision.

If the woman proceeds with the abortion, even in a state where the procedure remains legal, Collin would seek a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the abortion and “pursue wrongful-death claims against anyone involved in the killing of his unborn child.” Under Texas law, performing an abortion is a crime punishable by up to life in prison and up to $100,000 in civil penalties. Women seeking abortions cannot be charged under the state’s abortion restrictions. (Thanks a lot, Texas.) But anyone who performs or helps to facilitate an illegal abortion is subject to imprisonment or fines.

Must Uber drivers in Texas ask, “Are you pregnant?” before asking “Where to?” Life in prison is a stiff price for a fare.

Carrying abortion restrictions to a ridiculous extreme, several Texas cities and counties have passed local ordinances attempting to stop women seeking abortions from using key roadways.

An Uber driver might dare to drive a pregnant woman to the airport, but he would be wise to take back roads. The Abortion Police are patrolling the Interstates.

The engraving above the entrance to the Supreme Court Building in D.C. states, “Equal Justice Under Law”. Since Collin wants his “unborn child” so badly, “Equal Justice” would magically allow him to carry the child to term, give birth, and revel in all those sleepless nights and dirty diapers.

If nothing else, this fiasco will certainly bring Uber drivers into the Pro-Choice Movement.
