Polls are Packed!

I drove by our local polling place this morning at 7:30. There were 150 people in line outdoors plus how ever many were crammed inside the building. This was the biggest turnout there since 2008.

That makes sense in that Northampton County is a bellwether in “swing state” Pennsylvania. Kamala was in Allentown and Donnie was in Reading yesterday. No one can say, “I didn’t realize that yesterday was Election Day. I forgot to vote.” Our cell phones constantly “ping” with messages from both candidates.

Fortunately, it’s a beautiful day with morning temperatures in the mid-50s. It hasn’t rained in weeks. But November weather is tricky. There have been Election Days with sleet, driving wind, and temps in the mid-30s. Why take that chance and vote in person when you can vote by mail? Donnie said that mail-in ballots are OK this time, unlike in 2020. Of course in 2020, you not only risked the weather but COVID. Way to go, Donnie.

Pundits claim that the results of this election may not be known until Friday or Saturday thanks to mail-in paper ballots and paper ballot back-up on in-person voting. In a world where we trust the Internet when we tap our card at a gas pump, how can we not trust the Modern Digital Age to count votes?
