Political Gift Shopping
Christmas is almost upon us. That hard-to-buy-for Trump fan on your list still needs a present. You could “deliver” 11K Georgia votes, but it is a little too late for that. You could delay (and possibly scuttle) the Build Back Better Plan, but Joe Manchin and the always-fashionable Kyrsten Sinema already are planning that.
Why not gift that Trumpie on your list with these (real) items:
Exclusive Trump Wine Glasses — Yours for only a $70 “campaign donation”
An Iconic Trump Save America Christmas Tree Ornament — This requires a $75 “campaign donation”
A Donald Trump Christmas Stocking — Won’t the holidays be merrier with Donnie’s face staring at you from your fireplace mantle? This is a “slow mover” and is available for any “campaign donation” at all.
The Democrats offer items from “The Official Democratic Store” including a Presidential “Cup o’ Joe” coffee mug. The Dems did not forget out furry friends. A “Dogs For Democrats” collar (in blue of course) will show Fido’s support for progressive causes at the dog park.
I guess that peddling trinkets to raise money for political races is less harmful than obtaining that funding in big chunks on the promise of government contracts or lax tax enforcement post-election. After all, you can’t exit a theme park or a museum without passing through a gift shop.
Still, the one thing that appealed to me at the beginning of Donnie’s campaign was when he said, “I am very, very rich. I will finance my campaign myself. I will be beholden to no one.” Not exactly, Donnie. I am still holding you to your promise that “COVID will disappear by Easter.” You never specified which Easter so that was not a lie.
Parents place the “Elf on a Shelf” to ensure good behavior from children pre-Christmas. “The Elf will report you to Santa, kids”.
Will the Donald Trump Christmas Stocking serve the same purpose? “The stocking will report you to Donnie if you ever even think that Universal Pre-K, Medicare coverage for hearing and sight, or fighting Climate Change is a good idea.”
