Moral Blindness
Remember when Jeff Bezos vetoed the Washington Post’s endorsement of Kamala Harris last fall? That, along with a hefty donation to the Trump Inauguration Fund, bought Jeff a seat on Billionaire’s Row at the Inauguration. It also ensured that Trump 2.0’s Justice Department would never, ever, ever investigate Amazon for monopolistic practices. Jeff could essentially rent out Venice, Italy for his wedding reception worry-free and with a clear conscience.
Just to remain on Donnie’s good side, Jeff had the Post publish a Marc Thiessen column last week headlined, “Hunger In Gaza Has Many Authors, But Israel Isn’t One Of Them.” According to Marc, Israel delivered 1.8 million meals to Gaza in a single day last week and 1.9 million tons of aid since the start of the war. The skeletal child in the NY Times famous photo suffered from cystic fibrosis! It was staged! It never showed the child’s well-fed, even chubby mother and brother!
Yup, Marc. Just like the mass shootings at Sandy Hook, CT and Parkland, FL were “staged”. By the way, I’m sure that that poor kid is getting great care for his cystic fibrosis in the Gaza hospital that the Israelis bombed to rubble.
Marc blamed all the other starving children on Hamas. Marc claimed that 90% of the aid trucks that the Israeli Army so magnanimously allowed into Gaza are intercepted by Hamas who resells those looted supplies on the black market “raking in more than a half billion dollars in profit that allows them to continue due their reign of terror against Israel.”
Really, Marc? How are Gazans with zero income, bombed out of their homes and workplaces paying Hamas for that black market food? Mr and Mrs Gaza must be running up a helluva credit card bill. Oh that’s right. The Israelis bombed out Gaza’s banks, too. Free money!
Marc somehow blamed Gazans’ suffering not on Israel for bombing them or on the US for supplying Israel with those bombs (a cool $18 billion worth). The fault lies its Arab neighbors. Jordan and Egypt closed their borders to Gaza refugees. European countries accepted 5 million Ukrainian refugees when that war broke out, after all. “It would be easier to feed Gazan civilians if they were safe in a third country”, wrote Marc.
Brilliant, Marc. With Gaza vacant, Donnie and Netanyahu could build that seaside luxury resort (with giant golden statues of both of them) that they talked about earlier this year.
Marc ended with, “To lay the blame for this situation at Israel’s feet, rather than on Hamas requires a stunning level of moral blindness which is apparently plentiful when it comes to what is happening in Gaza.”
Actually, Jeff Bezos has the “stunning level of moral blindness” by allowing this crap to be published in his newspaper. Jeff pissed away millions on his Venice wedding. Jeff got to retain billions more by neutering the Washington Post. Does Jeff really believe that those photos of starving Gaza children are “staged”? It’s more important for him to stay on Donnie’s good side.
