Just Hype

On the surface, Donnie 2.0 appears to be an improvement over the original. But if you “look under the hood”, it is even worse.

A prime example are Donnie’s Secretaries of Energy. The Energy Department “is responsible for advancing the energy, environmental, and nuclear security of the USA.” The Department came into being after the near disaster at Three Mile Island and the actual disaster at Chernobyl. It’s really helpful to have professionals keeping tabs on the power grid, the environment, and especially nuclear power.

Obama’s Secretaries of Energy were Steven Chu who won a Nobel Prize in Physics and Ernest Morny, head of MIT’s Physics Department. Those guys definitely knew the difference between proton and a neutron. Donnie replaced them with former Texas Governor Rick Perry. Rick’s main qualification was recommending that “the Departments of Education, Energy, and one other (I forget which one) be abolished” if he were elected president. “You wanted to get rid of it. We’ll make you head of it.” That really inspired confidence among the 14,000 employees and contractors who work for the Department of Energy.

Amid all the brouhaha over Pete Hegseth and RFK, Jr., the nomination of Chris Wright to be Secretary of Energy under Trump 2.0 sailed through. Chris appears qualified. He holds an engineering degree from MIT and is head of Liberty Energy, the second largest fracking company in the world. Fracking permits will be really easy to obtain under Trump 2.0 and Liberty Energy will make lots of money, but that’s par for the course under Trump.

The scary thing is that when those nasty Democrats asked Chris about his 2023 Linked In post where he claimed that the link between climate change and wildfires was “just hype”, he said that he stood by that statement. Several thousand California homeowners might disagree with you, Chris. “ Just Hype” did not burn down their houses. “Just Hype” has not allowed these fires to continue burning into a second week.

Everyone recognized that Rick Perry was totally unqualified to be Energy Secretary, so no one paid any attention to him. Chris Wright appears qualified for the job, but he will trumpet the MAGA line.
