Senators have a lot to keep an eye on.
This week, our lawmakers had to keep tabs on the Jan 6 hearings, monkeypox, and Putin’s War. Who is there to keep watch on that insidious threat to our democracy — Sesame Street? Ted Cruz is on the job!
Now that COVID vaccination is approved for children under five years old, Sesame Street put in a plug for inoculation. Elmo announced on air that he had been vaccinated and stated, “There was a little pinch, but it was OK.” If Elmo can do it, so can you, Little Tiffany.
Ted Cruz was enraged. On a tweet, he scourged PBS for allowing Elmo to be vaccinated. He tweeted, “How can PBS aggressively advocate for vaccinating children UNDER 5. You cite ZERO scientific evidence for this.” Ted really has the Trumpian “capitalization for effect” down pat. He needs to work on his repeated exclamation point technique though. “scientific evidence for this!!!” would have been much more effective.
This isn’t the first time Ted has had a run-in with a high-profile “Sesame Street” star. He criticized Big Bird last year, when the yellow-feathered creature got his coronavirus shot . Big Bird is apparently over five years old while Elmo is not.
Naturally, a portion of the TwitterVerse agreed with Ted. One user wrote: “I blocked them, It’s gross. No more sesame street for my house.” That Sesame Street probably is one of the most “gross” things on TV. Let’s have our five year olds watching “Real Housewives” instead.
