Impulse Control

Bad things are likely to happen when you give a loaded pistol to a three year old. It is not the toddler’s fault if he shoots up the room. Studies show that the parts of the brain controlling impulse behavior and envisioning outcomes are not developed until the mid-twenties. This explains, but does not excuse, some of my college escapades.

Apparently, Donald J. Trump never developed impulse control or the ability to anticipate outcomes. His Secretary of Defense, Mark Esper, just released a book with examples of “Donnie being Donnie”:

When protesters remained on Lafayette Square despite being tear-gassed thus keeping him from his Bible-toting photo op, Donnie ordered General Milley to call in regular Army troops and “do what is necessary.” When the General pointed out that mobilizing regular Army troops against civilians violates the law, Donnie shouted, “You are losers. You are all fucking losers.” Very presidential, Donnie.

At one point, Trump proposed launching “missiles into Mexico to destroy the drug labs”. The then-president said, “No one would know it was us.” Demonstrating that the acorn doesn’t fall very far from the tree, Donald Trump, Jr chimed in, “That’s not a bad idea.”

Launching missiles into a neighboring country, destroying property and killing innocent civilians sounds like something that Donnie may have picked up from his “tough and savvy” buddy Putin.

Putting Donnie back in the Oval Office and allowing his finger on the nuclear button makes as much sense as handing a loaded Glock to a three year old. Maybe less.
