Heartfelt Plea

Only eight more weeks until the smiling faces of local car dealers and weight loss gurus replace those of Donnie and Kamala on TV commercials beamed into Pennsylvania households. I appreciate the fact that my vote is important in “Battleground Pennsylvania” but all this “Doom and gloom will surely follow if my opponent is elected” stuff is really getting old.

The GOP commercials are, of course, the scariest. A new one opens with a shot of a tombstone then pans to a middle-aged White (naturally) woman saying, “My son Joshua was 18 years old when he was murdered by an illegal alien. He was tortured, strangled to death and then set on fire. When I hear Kamala Harris making a joke about the border and just laughing it off, it’s painful. Kamala Harris was in charge of securing our border and she’s done nothing. If Kamala Harris is elected president, it’ll get worse. If it can happen to my family, it can happen to yours.”

There are a few minor problems with that heartfelt plea. The murder actually happened in 2010 in Texas. At the time, Kamala was San Francisco District Attorney and had nothing to do with Federal immigration policy or this case. In fact, Kamala has never been “in charge of securing our border”. Her responsibility was to determine the causes of immigration from Central America.

This commercial was sponsored by Preserve America PAC, not by the Trump campaign or the GOP. If confronted by its inaccuracies, Donnie can claim “Plausible Deniability”. Donnie is good at that. “I sign lots of checks. Did one for $130 K go to pay off Stormy Daniels? I don’t recall.”

Who is Preserve America PAC? It is one of those shadowy, but legal (Thanks, Supreme Court) Political Action Committees that don’t have to reveal their donors. The only restriction is that they cannot specifically endorse a candidate or be associated with a campaign. Their “purpose” is to “educate the public”. Or, in this case, scare the public. “If it can happen to my family. It can happen to yours.”

Preserve America’s chief benefactor is Miriam Adelson who has supported it to the tune of $100 million. Miriam is the casino magnate who received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from (you guessed it) President Donnie. According to Donnie, Miriam is equally worthy of America’s highest honors as military Medal of Honor recipients. $100 million can buy anything.

The next eight weeks cannot pass quickly enough.
