Florida Justice

Florida has some weird laws:

  • It Is Illegal for a Woman to Fall Asleep Under a Hair Dryer at a Hair Salon.
  • It Is Illegal to Roll a Barrel Down the Street in Pensacola.
  • The Punishment for Horse Theft Is Still Listed as Death by Hanging.
  • You Cannot Park at an Intersection.
  • It Is Illegal to Sing in a Swimsuit.

Florida courts know how to enforce those. Sunshine State jails are crammed with bikini-clad songstresses.

Judges are stumped when it comes to enforcing Florida’s new Anti-Abortion Law. A 16-year-old petitioned to terminate her pregnancy just as the new law requires. She was less than 12 weeks pregnant and her parents approved. The court must also approve since she is a minor. That’s the law. She cited being a student and unemployed as reasons she is unprepared to have a baby.

The court ruled that she is not mature enough to make the decision to have an abortion. Abortion denied. Carry that baby to term. Of course, she will have have plenty of opportunities to mature very quickly once she’s a mother.

Florida’s Anti-Abortion Law like all the others that have sprung up this year is really non-specific. What about ectopic pregnancies? Are miscarriages subject to criminal investigation? What if the rapist’s family wants the child delivered? Judges must decide. Different judges decide differently.

Meanwhile, that poor Florida 16 year old must carry the baby to term or travel to where abortion is still legal. She got the wrong judge. If she sang at the beach, it wouldn’t matter which judge she got. Justice is blind.
