Churchill Quotes

Winston Churchill said, “For any problem, there is a solution that is obvious, simple, and totally wrong.”

Of course, my favorite Churchill quip is: “A speech should be like a woman’s skirt — long enough to cover the basics but short enough to maintain your interest.”

Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen signed a bill Monday that bans abortion at 12 weeks of pregnancy and restricts gender-affirming medical care for people younger than 19. Governor Jim then ignored Churchill’s admonition with a quote that was “obvious, simple and totally wrong.” “It’s about protecting our kids and saving babies. Pure and simple.”

Seriously, Governor Jim? Are Nebraska parents spending tens of thousands to turn Little Kyle into Kylene on a whim? Pillen said he didn’t want Nebraska families considering gender-affirming medical care to be “duped into the silliness that if you do this, you’re going to become happy.” Governor Jim knows what will make you happy better than you do, people!

The Rolling Stones famously sang, “You can’t always get what you want.” Governor Jim might have used that as his background music when he said that he hopes to eventually enact an abortion ban at all stages of pregnancy. Poor Governor Jim had to compromise or the Republican National Committee would stop sending “campaign contributions” to the Cornhusker State.

The RNC knows that a 12 week abortion ban is like Churchill’s skirt comment — long enough to keep suburban women voters satisfied but short enough to keep the Evangelicals and Catholics happy. The 2024 elections are coming.
