There is plenty of news out there to set one’s blood boiling. All the kids from Uvalde aren’t buried yet and there is another mass shooting at a Tulsa hospital. Towns in Ukraine are being pulverized by Russian missiles while their elderly and infirm residents cannot escape. $5 per gallon for the same stuff that went for $2.80 a year ago?
What really set me off was this headline in today’s newspaper, “”Parents Are Charged With Not Feeding Their Baby. The 2 month old girl suffered kidney and liver damage.” Anyone who has ever been a parent, (Hell, anyone who has ever been a baby) should be outraged.
The parents, aged 25 and 32 (these are not kids), called 911 from their Bangor home complaining that their 2 month old daughter was slipping in and out of consciousness. The baby was taken to the new Children’s Hospital at LVH-Cedar Crest. Doctors found her temp at 101deg, low blood sugar, and indications of liver and kidney damage due to dehydration. As a side note, the baby had dirty ears, nose, and nails.
The parents claimed they were feeding and bathing the baby regularly and they couldn’t understand her condition. Police weren’t swallowing that. Finally, the mom admitted that she had gone three or four days without feeding the baby. “I was frustrated with trying to feed her. She kept on spitting up.” So you starve the baby? “You’ll eat when you are hungry enough!” works for toddlers but not for infants.
Get caught with marijuana in Pennsylvania and you get tossed into jail. Abuse an infant and you walk free on unsecured bail. Mom and Dad will stand trial on June 15.
The newspaper article did not specify number or age, but there are apparently other children in this household. All the kids including the poor baby are now in the custody of County Family Services.
This case will, no doubt, be plea-bargained and never go to trial. If it did, I could potentially be called for duty on that jury. The deepest, darkest prison for the longest possible term would still be too good for these two.
