Always Helping People
Conservatives proclaim “When guns are criminalized, only criminals will have guns.” They might also proclaim, “When abortion is criminalized, only criminals (and rich people) will have abortions.”
Herschel Walker, Trump-endorsed Georgia Senate candidate, is staunchly pro-life. He not only supports Lindsay Graham’s proposed national 15-week abortion ban, but he goes even further. Lindsay would allow exceptions for rape and incest. Herschel would allow no exceptions at all. He might even send a thank-you card to the rapist (more on that later).
This is a big deal since Senator Herschel will get to vote on the abortion ban if elected. In a “dirty trick” that Richard Nixon would cherish, it was revealed yesterday that Herschel may have paid for his girlfriend’s abortion in 2009. The girlfriend showed a $575 receipt from an abortion clinic and a $700 check signed by Herschel dated the same week enclosed in a Get-Well card. We are not sure if the card was a Hallmark “when you care enough to send the very best”.
Herschel tweeted this response, “This is a flat-out lie — and I deny this in the strongest possible terms. This a repugnant hatchet job.” Most Georgia voters are not Herschel’s Twitter followers so he continued his “damage control” with an appearance with Sean Hannity last night.
Herschel said, “I don’t know this woman and I’ve never seen this check or card.”
Incisive journalist that he is, Hannity countered, “But experts have verified your signature on the check and card.”
Herschel bounced right back. “I send money to a lot of people. I give money to people all the time cause I’m always helping people.”
In the finest tradition of “fair and balanced” Fox News, Sean Hannity did not pursue it any farther.
Bill Clinton was ridiculed for his Monica Lewinsky defense claim, “That depends on what your definition of “is” is.” Herschel’s “I give money to people all the time cause I’m always helping people.” may be worse.
